It Is Time Kumawood Actors Took Facebook, Twitter, Instagram And Others Serious – MUST READ

Each one for himself, God for us all but at times you need to push some things into others throat if they seem not to know anything about its importance. For some years now, social media networks Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others have become the modern way of communicating where most people including businessmen, celebrities, government officials, event organizers and other personalities use as a means of getting new deals and also to advert their products. Whilst others are making good use of these platforms either by legal or illegal means, few are misusing it with or without their notice but that is not our concern, we are more interested in the lives of celebrities and what they do so let’s restrict our conversation to that arena.
Ever since these social media networks became part of us, people in the entertainment industry who are rarely seen on these popular platforms are folks from the Kumasi movie industry popularly known as Kumawood. Questions I mostly asked myself are “are they too busy to get time for it, do they lack knowledge about all these social media networks or they don’t see the essence of them?” aside these questions, there are many others I have asked myself and have heard people ask as well.
Not long ago, Akrobeto was reported to have said
“What is Facebook? Is Facebook the key to life? Those who want to do Facebook are doing it and those who are not interested are also doing their own thing. It adds or takes nothing away from my career because that is not what will feed me. Most of my people are on Facebook but I don’t think I will waste my time on that thing,”
Well that is him and I can’t begrudge him for his comment but what I can say is that ‘Emmere dani aa, dani woho bi”. Time changes so you always have to get yourself updated to fit the current situation else you will be left behind. Let’s take a closer look at how some Ghanaian celebrities are making good use of their social media networks, hence generating lots of income for them.
John Dumelo on April fool’s day became the first Ghanaian to gain a million likes on Facebook. John aside his motivational messages on the platform makes his fans aware of his errands. John uses that platform to advertise his movies, J.Melo products, foundation, projects and gives up-to-date information about himself to his fans.
Actress Yvonne Nelson has been crowned as the most controversial actress in Ghana and she gives all the glory to social media networks. Yvonne Nelson will pick her iPhone 5  and just post anything controversial about her sex life or relationship and bloggers/journalists will pick it up from there – after all bad news sells.
Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim, Lydia Forson, Ama K Abebrese, Adjetey Annan, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel, Eddie Nartey, Eddie Watson and other glamour actors use Facebook, twitter, instagram and other social media networks to keep their fans updated about their career. Due to these sites, celebrity websites are rarely seen because they can use these platforms to reach out to about million people.
I won’t even bother you with how Sarkodie, E.L Okyeame Kwame, Kwabena Kwabena, Sister Deborah, Wanlov, Reggie Rockstone, E.L and other musicians are making use of these platforms
Before Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, Nadia Buari, Chris Attoh, Juliet Ibrahim or these glamour actors will release a movie, they would have made noise about it with the behind-the-scenes-photos on social media networks so by the time the movie is set to be released, publicity would have already been done and the only thing left is to get little commercials and stories for it.
I am tempted to think that Kumawood actors and their producers are always conversant with what they have; hence they don’t see the need to chance on other platforms to promote their brand. I remember that Cannes Festival rejected some names of Kumawood actors due to their low presence on social media networks and online – that should tell them something. Some of these Kumawood actors have larger fanbase and if they had taken these social media networks serious, they would have gone far than where they are now. Miracle Films started producing movies since Christ was a carpenter but Shirley Frimpong Manson of Sparrows Production has over 27,000 likes on facebook – I don’t know if Mr. Samuel Nyamekye, CEO of  Miracle Films is on facebook.
Agya Koo, Kwaku Manu, Akrobeto, Mercy Asidue, Rose Mensah aka Kyeiwaa and other Kumawood actors can make use of these networks to promote their brands and get deals but they are not doing that. You can hire the services of others to manage it for you if you know nothing about it – your relative can even be of help to you at this stage. Who says these hiplife musicians who are always making noise on these platforms always manage their social media networks? Some have online managers who make sure their accounts are active. They keep their online managers updated about their activities in order for them to make their fans aware through their accounts. Kumawood actors can do same.
There are disadvantages when you are on these platforms but the advantages out weigh the disadvantages if you are a celebrity. All these imposters of Kumawood celebrities come as a result of the actors failing to create their accounts whilst their fans are eager to get interactive with them.
All what I’m saying is, Kumawood actors should take their online presence especially social media networks serious and it will help them. If they cannot manage it, they should hire the services of an experts – I’m ever ready to assist but not for free!
Let me end by congratulating Vivian Jill, Bill Asmoah, Emelia Brobbey, Kwadwo Nkansah Liwin, Mercy Asiedu and other Kumawood actors who are making use of these platforms in one way or the other – some of the accounts are fake though.

I’ve Not Been Suspended From Methodist University – Grace Ashly Claims

Grace Ashly
Gospel songstress, Grace Ashy has refuted reporters suggesting that she has been suspended from the Methodist University College for examination malpractice.
The Razz newspaper report Wednesday that, the ebullient songstress, who is a level 400 student at the Methodist University College, Accra, was allegedly caught cheating during an end-of-semester examination and has subsequently been suspended from the school for two semesters for her misconduct.
The paper claimed, the University has suspended her for two semesters which means that; the artiste, who was expected to graduate this year – would have to hold on and graduate another year.
Reacting to the story in an interview with Myjoyonline.com, the ‘Gyese Woba Mu’ hit singer said the story is false and she is still an active student of the Methodist University College.
“There was an issue but it wasn’t me; just that I was within the group and we were discussing something. My name is the popular name so if there is anything my name will be mentioned but I’ve done nothing,” Grace Ashly lamented.

She added that, “Even yesterday [Tuesday] I went to register [for] my [resit exams] so I’m still a student. I don’t know who is behind this… there is somebody behind it but I don’t know why.”
Explaining what might have fuelled the negative reportage, the gospel musician said she was part of a group and “We were discussing a [Constitution] paper and the invigilators came in but unfortunately all the students dispersed,” and left a booklet behind “and I picked it and I called one of the invigilators to come for it.”
According to her the incident happened two semesters ago before the said exams and she said she even wrote last semester’s examinations.
But Public Relations Officer of the Methodist University College, Kwesi Agyapong speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com said “as it stands now she’s not [been] sacked from the school as it has been reported,” in some media circles.

He added that, “She is still a student of the [Methodist] University College but I will prefer you let her confirm her suspension or whatever it is.”
Kwesi Agyapong said “it’s not true” if Grace Ashly says she wrote last semester’s examinations.
Pushed to give a yes or no answer as to if she has been suspended, the Methodist University College spokesperson hesitated and said “Yes”.

The Music Industry Treats Us As Outcasts - Wanlov The Kubolor

A Member of popular Ghanaian music group Foes of Kwame Nkrumah otherwise known as FOKN Bois has disclosed that one of the group’s biggest challenge in making it big in the Ghanaian music industry is the manner in which they (FOKN Bois) are treated.

In a one-on-one interview session with nydjlive.com from his home, Emmanuel Owusu Bonsu known in showbiz circles as Wanlov stated that the industry was full of pretenders who hated to see and live the realities which the group believed in therefore they're being seen as awkward and treated as outcasts.

Wanlov stressed that it was pathetic the whole industry was painting and living a different life that did not really represent what the society was.

“Our biggest problem is that the whole industry is fake and so it accepts people who live fake lives and cannot be themselves. You know we are very sarcastic in our approach to issues and so these industry people who are supposed to give us the push feel we are not one of them (fake people)”.

He however expressed appreciation to the few realistic people who support their craft.

FOKN Bois is made up of Wanlov the Kubolor and M3nsa Ansa, a connoisseur in the hiplife movement in Ghana.

The group was recently in South Africa where its movie Cos Ov Moni 2 was screened to thousands of people after it was recommended by Oscar Award Nominee, Mike Lerner.

Reggie Rockstone Seeks God’s Face Over MUSIGA Presidency

Guess what Hiplife’s Grandpapa Reggie Rockstone would tackle first if he is to become MUSIGA President… “the royalty system and the payment of Payola to DJs”.

The renowned Ghanaian musician in an interview with Solid FM’s Kwame Poku said the country’s royalty system especially within the music industry left much to be desired. He says many musicians died poor with nothing left behind for their dependants because issues of royalties are not taken seriously.

Reggie Rockstone has been tipped by many in the industry as a potential Head of Ghana’s music body; MUSIGA.

He however tells Entertainment radio host Kwame Poku that, though he is honoured, he is seeking the face of God regarding the matter and “until God endorses it, he would remain a VVIP”.

He said he would address issues of royalty payments to musicians as well as payment of payola to DJs should he become the leader of the umbrella body for Ghanaian musicians. He believes strongly payola “translates into other variations of corruption”.

“You have people who have no talent whatsoever taking up the airwaves because they have money”, he lamented adding that “musicians are not paid monthly like the DJs”.

On his latest song as a member of the VVIPs, Reggie Rockstone expressed excitement about the success of the Selfie song. “It’s huge…it’s a little bit more than just a song, it’s one of those songs where the fans get to be a part of the story.”

He believes it is the first interactive hit song with some ninety-eight thousand views on youtube and counting.

“It’s getting bigger with the Hollywood award winning actor Idris Elba featuring in the remix…thanks to Jah”.

“Selfie” featuring Prodigal and Lazy has gained recognition among music fans and has been on the chats for several weeks running.

MzVee has a way of drawing strength and musical prowess from her pace setters, first it was VVIP on “Borkor Borkors” then it came to Stone Buoy on “Natural Girl” and now it is the current reigning Ghanaian artiste of the year Shatta Wale.

Recorded by Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment Studio, the track titled “everything” talks about how MzVee promises her man Shatta Wale that she will give everything to make their relationship work and reaffirms her love for her man.

“I decided to do a high life just so that people will see the other side of me which is my versatility. I believe that music changes, every era and the genre that is welcomed and if you are an artiste and you want to stand the test of time, you should be able to cut across all the genre of music.

Commenting on how she feels about finally having a track with Ghana’s reigning champion of dancehall, she said; “It was a great experience having to be in the same studio with Shatta Wale. He is a talent and working with him was full of fun and excitement which to me was contrary to how people perceive him outside.”

Currently, she is working on the video of the song and hopes that it will herald her solo debut album scheduled for release in September. Real name, Vera Hamenoo-Kpeba, MzVee is hopeful that this track will showcase her as a force to reckon with on the dancehall front.

Samini Gives 1Million Solar Lanterns For Free

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has launched the “Samini Light A Million Lives” project on Tuesday July 15, at Dancestardom in Accra as part of his 10 years in music.

As part of the “Samini Light A Million Lives” musician will distribute one million pieces of solar powered lanterns in deprived communities in rural areas across the northern part of the country where he hails from.

Samini Light A Million Lives, is a very ambitious project to distribute One Million solar lanterns across the length and breadth of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch Samini stated that it is very important to take social responsibility to the next level where it becomes social investment. As a kid, I had always fancied the idea of using the sunlight to generate light so it is this childhood dream that has led to this project so many years after.

He called on cooperate bodies, the media and government to support this project to hit his target of distributing 1 billion free solar lanterns across the whole of Africa.

Read Samini’s Speech Unedited:

I have also come to the full understanding of teaching a person how to fish rather than giving them fish always! With this background, I have liaised with some partners to establish a solar assembling plant in Ghana so that all the One Million solar lanterns would be assembled right here in Ghana. I want to be able to create some employment at the same time give people the chance to learn to become solar technicians so they can service all the lanterns in case they become faulty.

In order to achieve this dream, I researched and consulted and found very suitable partners for this venture. The people you see with me here are from Light a Million Lives Foundation and Ecotech Green Limited. You would be hearing from them soon about the roles they are playing in this project.

All said and done, I believe my biggest allies for this project is the media and my fans. I know and trust I would get all the support to make this project a really big success just as we have done with the music.

This project would also require the support of corporate Ghana and all donor agencies. I will like to use this opportunity to inform Corporate Ghana, Donor agencies and Individuals that I will be knocking on their doors very soon for their support for this very noble cause. I want to assure all stakeholders and donors of this project that everyone who contributes to the success of this project (Samini Light a Million Lives) would benefit immensely from all the activities lined up for the execution of this project.

Nevertheless, all work and no play makes Samini a dull guy so we would be having some concerts around the country and a really huge concert to crown the whole project and we might even have some artiste from other countries joining in the party.

Worry Not, Marriage Won’t Break Us —Captain Planet

At a time when the continued existence of Hiplife trio 4x4, appears threatened by the recent marriage of the leader, Captain Planet, to the former Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone, Uche Ofodile, the group has come out to allay the fears of a break-up.

Captain Planet told Showbiz last week Friday that the group is working tirelessly to “feed their fans with great music” and the last thing that could possibly cross their minds is the break-up of the group because of his wife’s relocation to South Africa.

“I can confidently say that my marriage will not have any negative effect on our brand and no member of the group is relocating.

“It is my wife whose job will take her to new places in the world but officially, we reside in Ghana and this is where we have our home as a couple.

“She is only going to work and will always be back to the country and I will also pay her visits whenever the need arises. We are mature people who understand what marriage is about so I don’t think that it will have a toll on our respective careers. We understand each other very well and know what marriage entails,” he said.

For one who said he strongly believes in the institution of marriage, Captain Planet who recently got back from his honeymoon was hesitant to talk about marriage life and expectations. “So far, so good but I will rather want to talk about the projects the group is involved in”.

As a member of a group who has enjoyed glorious days characterised with the sweeping of many awards, Captain Planet believes that even after a decade of being on the music scene, they are still a formidable group to reckon with.

He discounted claims that his recent marriage would put pressure on Fresh Prince to also settle down since he is the only bachelor in the group.

“Prince is a talented young man who is more concentrated on his career”.

He came to the group’s defense when he was asked about their seeming waning popularity. He confidently talked about how the group had survived the years despite the tides and challenges that came with the “job”.

“4x4 never dies, we rather multiply. We were two and added a member so we are a group that progresses and do not retrogress like other groups that have fallen apart. I laugh anytime I hear such comments because we set a record in the industry that is yet to be broken.

“Ten years, we made back to back hits and no group has beaten that achievement. It should be put on record that 4X4 doesn’t release songs without planning because if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Many artistes can’t climb the ladder of success because they release without any consideration because others are doing so. But I don’t think it is a competition,” he said.

Captain Planet told Showbiz that he is currently in Ada with other artistes hoping to find their missing colleague, Castro, who is feared drowned at the Ada Estuary last Sunday. He said Castro is a protégé of 4X4 since they discovered and featured him on their debut album, Siklitele, in 2003 which brought him to public prominence.

He said but for the “nightmare” that the country had been plunged into following Castro’s “disappearance”, the group would have released a new single this week but had to hold on in solidarity with what had happened.

The 4x4 group which is made up of Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey (Captain Planet), Edem Avornyo (Coded) and Prince Tamakloe (Fresh Prince) are currently signed on to Don Jeff Records.

He gave a hint about the release of the video of their new single, Baby Dance, which featured Nigerian artiste, Davido, this month.
