Becca, Trigmatic Collaborate To Tell "Lover And Friend" Story

Two of Ghana's multiple awards winning artists Becca and Trigmatic are set to release their 3rd collaboration come April 2015 titled Lover & Friend.

At a media listening event held at the +233 pub in Accra on Friday 20th March, a section of the media had the opportunity to listen to the song for the first time.

The song, jointly written by Becca and Trigmatic tell the story of two best friends. One(Trigmatic) falls in love with the other and wishes they could be lovers, whiles the other (Becca) feels their friendship should be maintained because of its value. The story of the song, as Trigmatic explains, is an everyday story that anybody can relate to . Especially two friends.

Trigmatic, whose poetic rap and catchy lines, music fans have come to love over the years, flawlessly sings in this collaboration. When asked why he chose to sing when he could have rapped, he said, "singing allowed me to express the words and meaning of the song better".

One can visualize the drama unfold by following the simple, but deep truths the lyrics bring to bear.

Producer Gideon Amoafo, known in the music industry as GENIUS, who has produced songs like Edem's Over Again and Raquel's Sweetio, stated how listening to other works of the two artists inspired the Afro-fusion beat of Lover & Friend.

The event, hosted by Stacy Amoateng of TV3 Music Music fame, was attended by a section of the media including, radio presenters, bloggers, DJs, journalists etc.

On why the two artists decided to collaborate for the third time, Becca had this to say. "For a long time I knew Trigmatic as a wonderful singer and he's got such a wonderful voice. And he and I have a history of .......... we are friends " stopping herself just in time so as not to reveal more history between them. " Truly speaking, the story relates to the two of us so well. It's really a true life story" she added.

When asked if there will be a continuation of the story in another collaboration? Trigmatic answered jokingly saying: "Probably we will continue with it but it depends on Becca if only she agrees not be just a friend anymore". He added that "if that does not happen, I will continue to plead in another song".

i>Lover & Friend took eight months to make and both Becca and Trigmatic agree the smooth synergy between them translated into telling their own true story. Watch out for lover & friend come April 5, 2015 to know the complete story.

Forget Stonebwoy - Edem

Volta Regime Music Group (VRMG) boss, Edem, says no artiste deserves the enviable “Artiste Of The Year” award at this year’s Ghana Music Awards than him.

The rapper who performed at the African Union Hall Week celebration last Saturday at the University of Ghana said no artiste worked better than him in the year under review.

Rashid Mugeez, a member of Tema-based music group, R2Bees has tipped Stonebwoy for the “Artiste Of The Year” award at this year’s Ghana Music Awards scheduled for 11 April 2015.

The ‘Koene’ hitmaker has been nominated in the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards “Artiste of the Year” category alongside veteran Highlife musician Daddy Lumba also known as DL, hardworking rapper Guru, BHiM Nation boss and artiste, Stonebwoy, fastest rising Dancehall empress MzVee, rapper Sarkodie and African Dancehall King Samini.

New Video: Sarkodie ft. Paedae on “Oluwa Is Involved”

Even though Sarkodie has passed through thick and thin in life, people are still speculating rumours that he is a member of Illuminati.

All that the rap King can say is “Oluwa Is Involved” and no matter what people say he is so proud of what the Lord has made him.

The award winning rapper released a music video for the song which was released some months ago and features Paedae of R2bees.

The quality video directed by Lex MacCarthy undoubtedly displays the Tema rap culture. The video was shot at the harbour and the costume was purely hip hop.

Michael Owusu Addo aka Sarkodie and Faisal Hakeem aka Paedae, have both become heavyweights in Ghana's music industry. Enjoy the video below.

Music Awards Spark Controversy

Controversy has ensued over the 16th edition of the Ghana Music Awards nominations list after it was announced in Accra Friday night at a ceremony attended by key industry players.

Misgivings have been expressed about why some names were missing in some of the categories as well as the justification for placing certain songs under categories they ought not to have belonged.

The enviable Overall Best Artiste of the Year category is being competed for by Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie and Samini.

Sarkodie had the highest number of nominations in the 25 categories, followed by Edem and Stonebwoy who seems to be having a jolly good time, with a lot of people tipping him as a very strong contender.

Reggie Rockstone and VVIP

The hiplife Grand Papa complained that his song with VVIP, ‘Selfie’, had been placed under the hiplife category whereas the song, according to him, is a hip-hop song.

“‘Selfie’ is not a hiplife song; place it anywhere except hiplife. I am the originator of hiplife and I know what hiplife is. ‘Selfie’ is not hiplife but the VGMA Board, on their own, decided to place it under hiplife although we submitted the song for the hip-hop category,” Rockstone complained after the announcement of the list.

SAMINI

Samini’s nomination for the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year category has sparked a huge public debate, with many asking which Reggae or Dancehall song qualified him for that category.

Indeed, his hit track, ‘Iskoki’, was surprisingly placed under the category of Hiplife Song of the Year, disqualifying it from the Reggae/Dancehall category.

A more critical look at the list, however, shows that Kaakie and Episode both have nominations for Reggae/Dancehall Artiste when they did not have any songs competing for Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year.

AKOO NANA & CASTRO

Akoo Nana was also seen fuming and almost caused a scene after the nominations list was announced and his hit track with Castro, “Mi Yadaw”, was missing from the list.

Akoo and many others believe “Mi Yadaw” was popular within the calendar year and made enough impact to have earned it at least a nomination. There were speculations that Akoo’s recent brawl with Charterhouse, the organisers, may have caused his elimination from the list though he had a mega track.

Several pundits have also questioned Castro’s absence from the Artiste of the Year category though he enjoyed a huge audience appeal and had some hit tracks in 2014.

Chase Forever

The smooth singer has expressed disappointment with the 2015 nominations for Ghana Music Awards.

According to him, the nominations were a reflection of claim that the awards ceremony is based on popularity rather than an award scheme which seeks to honour and encourage talents.

This musician gave this as the reason he did not make it on the nominations list of the 2015 edition of the awards ceremony.

When contacted on Saturday, Chase told NEWS-ONE that to him the awards ceremony was ‘not credible.’

“…Ghana Music Awards or whatever; I think is not credible to me because I feel like the people who really work hard never see the light of day in that place.

“It is just for a few people who are shining… It is like a popularity awards. You take the Grammies; somebody like Beck was nominated and people here don’t even know who Beck is, to the extent where Kanye West was able to say that Beck does not even deserve it. It is not a popularity award, you understand. People actually sit down and write music, so can’t you take your time and listen to songs word by word? … They don’t know what they are doing. And if the song sounds exotic or foreign you must still sit down and listen to it. It is not acapella; there is a producer who worked on it, and there is an engineer who worked on it,” he expressed his disappointment for not getting on the nominations list.

GALAXY

Another major disappointment that has been expressed is how Galaxy, the most popular duo on the music block, did not make it to the Best New Artiste(s) of the Year category. Galaxy, under the calendar year, had its hit song, Holla At Me, all over the airwaves and the group played a lot of shows yet did not make the list.

That category had names such as Episode, Pappy Kojo, MzVee, Emelia Arthur, Wiyaala and Vybrant Faya competing for the award.

Best Collaboration of the Year

As per the category definition of Best Collaboration of the Year, the two or more musicians who came together for that collaboration ought to have generated a huge public impact and appeal. It is therefore shocking that the VGMA Board settled on gospel song ‘Alpha & Omega’ by Selina Boateng, featuring Uncle Ato, for this category.

It makes it look as though the Board was only doing the gospel fraternity a favour rather than nominating the song based on the strength of its collaboration.

Such a decision gives credence to the complaint from Akoo Nana with regard to how his collaboration with Castro, “Mi Yadaw”, did not make it though it made a huge impact in the calendar year.

Amazingly, the VGMA Board decided that ‘Alpha & Omega’ by Selina Boateng featuring Uncle Ato made more impact than “Mi Yadaw” by Akoo Nana and Castro and therefore nominated it to compete with ‘Koene’ by Edem featuring Ice Queen and Lil Shaker, ‘Baby Dance’ by 4X4 featuring Davido,
‘Adonai (Remix)’ by Sarkodie featuring Castro, ‘Seihor’ by Castro featuring D-Black, ‘Love Rocks’ by Sarkodie featuring Samini and ‘Baafira’ by Stonebwoy featuring Sarkodie.

Stonebwoy Must Win Artiste Of The Year- Mugeez

Rashid Mugeez, a member of Hiplife group, R2Bees is rooting for Stonebwoy as the Artiste of the Year at this year Vodafone Ghana Music Awards scheduled for April 11.

Mugeez told Showbiz in an interview on Saturday in that Stonebwoy deserves the Artiste of the Year because he worked hard last year.

“Most of the artistes nominated in that category did well last year but Stonebwoy is the best in my opinion. He released a lot of hit songs and performed on almost all the major platforms. He has come far and no artiste deserves the Artiste of the Year better than Stonebowy” he said.

To Mugeez, Stonebwoy is one artiste who does not joke with his work and it is not surprising he was nominated as one of the artiste in contention for Artiste of the year.

Although R2Bees had three nominations-Highlife Song of the Year, Afro- Pop Song and Best Group of the Year, Mugeez admitted that the group was not very active last year.

“I honestly believe R2Bees was not on top last year because we were not on major platforms and we did not release many songs. It is not every year that an artiste reign but we promise to give our fans more music next year” he said.

According to Mugeez, R2Bees always want to have something for their fans all the time that is why they released three singles last year.

“Although we were not very active last year, we still released three singles for our fans. And the three nominations this year testify that the group is still loved by Ghanaians who have enjoyed our songs all these many years” he said.

Mugeez said whether they win an award or not, they are still committed to give Ghanaians the best from them.
