VGMA Public Voting Ends On April 7

Contrary to what people may think, the decision of who wins what at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA’s) is not taken by Charterhouse, the event organizers.

In times past artiste, that haven’t won anticipated awards have vented their spleen on Charterhouse hurling all manner of venomous invectives at them for a decision that is taken by the Academy, the Board and the general public.

The weight of voting is shared amongst the general public who have a voting weight of 40%, the Academy which has a voting weight of 30% and the Board who have a voting weight of 30%. The voting weight takes a different turn of 50% – 50% between the Academy and the Board when it comes to the nonpublic or categories.

The campaign for votes by artistes began in earnest when the nominees list was made public, the general public has been voting and the Academy had its turn to decide on Saturday 28th March 2015 at the Airport View Hotel. The VGMA Academy consists of Djs, entertainment writers, presenters and critics who were carefully selected from across the country giving the Awards a national feel. The Academy voting process is a crucial aspect of the VGMA decision making process. After the Academy voted, KPMG the event statisticians, took charge of their individual voting sheets for verification and compilation. The event statisticians will after the close of voting tally the results of the general public, the Board and the Academy certify, verify them and present the voting results on the night of the main event.

The 2015 VGMA Academy may have had they say, but voting is still ongoing for the general public until Tuesday April 7th when it officially closes. Do not forget that you still have a 40% power to decide the outcome of the public voting categories. You can decide, at least in part, who gets what on music’s biggest night. Exercising that power is very simple, just text A to vote for Artiste of the Year, Text B to vote for Vodafone Song of the Year and Text C to vote for other categories to 1767.

Maurice Ampaw And Gyan To Battle In Court??

Legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has told ‘The Zone’ on Starr 103.5FM that he is yet to receive any court suit from Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan.

Gyan, through his lawyers, has reportedly sued the maverick lawyer for making defamatory comments about him (Gyan) regarding the disappearance of hiplife artiste Castro.

The Al Ain playmaker, according to the suit, is seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain the lawyer from repeating such comments and also demanding damages to the tune of GH¢5 million from the outspoken legal practitioner.

The writ, filed by lawyer Kissi Agyabeng, said Ampaw in a series of interviews with several media houses across Ghana had insisted consistently that he knew where to find the missing musician and called for the arrest of Gyan, as he believed the Black Stars captain had something to hide in the missing Castro saga.

It said the lawyer had also alleged that there were attempts by close associates of Asamoah Gyan to bribe Castro’s mother with an amount of GH¢l0, 000 so she would stop searching for her missing son.

However, Ampaw has said he cannot be intimidated by court suits.

“I haven’t received any suit from him or his lawyers. I have met his lawyer on four different occasions and he didn’t say anything to me.

“I have said plainly and openly that I will never retract anything I have said about him (Gyan) in this matter.

“If I have to go to court over this matter, I’m willing and prepared to appear before the court to defend myself,” he stated Wednesday.
