The advent of hiplife brought about a revolution in the Ghanaian
music landscape which hitherto had been dominated by hilife and gospel.
This new genre which basically was rap music on local instrumentation or
African beats, saw lots of youth trying their luck with the rap thing
in order to show their talents and also of course put food on the table.
As much as we had and still have very good rappers, it was also very
easy to fish out the wannabes who lacked the talent for rap.
Below we present to you Ghana’s all time wack rappers….enjoy
KOKOVELI
Kokovelli may have had luck smile his way since he got some hit songs
out there with his first album ZAAZA. He also benefitted from the
collaboration with Samini and K.K. Fosu which gave birth to the group
TRINITY. However, it was obvious Kokovelli wasn’t a rapper. Dudes rap
was just lame and his lines were just childish. No wonder after the
breakup of Trinity, his music career died.
C-ZAR
C-Zar is like the Diddy of Ghana music. He can’t rap, his lines are
lame and he’s got the most outrageous choruses, but he always gets the
public interested. According to him, his rap is rappable.. Don’t know
the hell what that means. But anyway, I guess luck has a limit on how
many times it can shine on a single person. Its been years and nothing
has been heard from C-Zar, guess Ghanaians finally got tired of his wack
self.
PHAROAH (AKATAKYIE)
“Mi Pharaoh, mi di mi rap, maba, maba……..” I guess you remember this
infamous rap line?? That was Pharaohs first few lines on Akatakyie’s
“Odo Esisi mi” song. The verse was so bad I learnt he was nearly beaten
by VIP when he met them at a club and went like, VIP whats up?lol…. A
lot of rappers were pissed off with homeboys rap cos to them, he dragged
the genre back a thousand years…. He got a lil better over the years
though but my 4 year old niece can still do better than him.
PAEDAE
How many times have we not spoken about Paedizzle already?? The truth
is that, R2Bees is winning but Paedae is the odd one out. He can’t
write one single line that is deep. His lines are always shallow and his
few attempts at throwing punch lines always end up bad. But how for
do….Rahh still…..
KWAKU TEE (KWAKU TUTU)
Honestly Kwaku Tee cannot rap to save his own life. Dude just sucks
at the rap thing. For someone who’s been in the game for this long,
you’ll think that he would have owned the scene by now but the opposite
is the case. He’s changed his name several times but it didn’t bring him
any luck. The only success he’s had was his joint album with D-Black
which actually brought Black to the fore of Gh music. D-Black though
he’s also wack, is still here and making papers whiles Kwaku we learnt
now plies his trade as a radio and TV presenter in SA.
D-BLACK
D-Black is a business man, period. He does everything that the public
wants. Great danceable beats, easy to sing along choruses and great
marketing strategy. Honest truth is D-Black can’t rap good to save his
life. For a rapper who’s collaborations out-number his solo projects, we
can’t draw any other conclusion can we?
OKYEAME QUOPHI
One half of the defunct hiplife group, Akyeame, Okyeame Quophi just
couldn’t rap. He wrote good lines though but his delivery was always
wack. After the group broke up, he released a solo album which didn’t do
well. He is now singing and as much as I’ll like to say it isn’t too
good, I do prefer that to his rap.
POZOH (NANANOM)
Pozo knows how to make hit songs but for the rap proper, you can
spare him. From his Nananom days to when he went solo, his rap has never
matured. He still spits the same old, immature lines. He will use any
word or line just to rhyme. He got through with a few hits but Ghanaians
grew tired of his wack self. His absence definitely is a sign that he’s
gotten the message.
MACHO RAPPER
It’s nice to rap about your strength and capabilities but when every
song has this same pattern, then it becomes boring. Macho rapper doesn’t
rap about anything than how strong he is, how he will beat you if you
come near his girl, how he writes his lines while lifting weight in the
gym and all that. Simple put, dude makes no sense with his rap. I need a
bodyguard ASAP!!!!!lol
