According to the ‘prodigal’ artiste, the song which is produced by JQ, “Donkomi’ is done being recorded and set for release but we want to accompany it with its video which we have held on with the shoot of the video since Captain Planet, a member of 4X4 is out of town.”
Elaborating the concept of his return song, Dr. Poh said, “Donkomi is a song that describes people in a relationship who tarnishes the image of their partners yet makes them feel they love them indeed when they are alone with them. It will have a simple video accompanying it in few weeks time when Captain Planet returns.”
Born Richard Kwabena Nyarko, Dr. Poh, who was last heard off actively on the music scene about 9 years ago indicated “although I have been silent music-wise, I returned briefly in 2010 with ‘Ebe ko’ featuring Castro which did not do so well but that is not the main reason why I went back into hiding.”
“I went back to continue my musical leave and to rather attend to some private businesses including my car dealing trade, extended family farmland, etc. yet I have sternly been following the happenings in the industry,” he told GhanaWeb Entertainment Desk in a phone interview.
Commenting on the current happenings in the music industry, Dr. Poh commended MUSIGA President, Bice-Osei Kufuor and his administration with a ‘so far so good’ description for their quota to the development of the industry and on GHAMRO, he said;
“I can say very little about the Ghana Musicians Right Organization (GHAMRO) because I lost interest to follow up for my royalties when I realized the amount rewarded to musicians the time COSGA existed was very discouraging and that has been it.”
On comparison of music production now to then times, he disclosed that during the early years of music in Ghana, “a producer can call you to his studio and record about 10 songs on a beat he has created although not for free but at an affordable fee and also serve you food and drinks all for free.”
“But now, as one will describe the current state of everything; there has been development and seems the young ones has taken charge yet in all, the industry is doing well and I advise upcoming musicians not to give up due to the challenges they encounter, they surely will get there,” the ‘Na who cause am’ singer indicated.
Dr. Poh in 2005 released songs like ‘Na who cause am’ featuring Shilo, 2Tee and Mamaskuta which brought him onto the limelight, his debut album with Q. Lex Entertainment and also, ‘Market Open’ which lyrics was written at PSI Studio.
Commending his comeback, Music Producer JQ said; “Well, that is how the industry is sometimes, Dr. Poh and myself are more like family than business partners though it was the music business that brought us together."
"We put in so much work into ‘Na who cause am’, his first album and it did so well; Dr. Poh's coming back after all these years I think is a way of revisiting the joy, friendship and success that we felt and experienced while the first album is indeed an awesome feeling,” he said.
